Work
What we’ve built.
These are the projects we spend most of our time on. Some are products we operate ourselves; one is a website we build and maintain for a nonprofit. They have little in common on the surface. What they share is a starting point, a complicated problem that needed to become straightforward to work with.
SearchTexasTax
Texas publishes hotel and mixed beverage tax receipts, but the raw filings are difficult to work with when you simply want an answer. SearchTexasTax makes them searchable. You can look up a single property, or an entire city or county, with revenue going back to 2000, drawn directly from the Comptroller’s filings.
It also calculates the figures people usually need, such as RevPAR and trailing twelve month revenue, so the work doesn’t have to move into a spreadsheet. And it is fast, which is less common in public data than it should be.
PBX
Package Booking Experience
PBX is the booking engine behind EnjoySPI and StayinMcAllen. The premise is straightforward: let a guest place a room, a meal, and an excursion in one cart and pay a single time, rather than booking each piece separately and hoping the dates align.
The difficulty is underneath. A trip like that spans several tax rates and rules, and PBX resolves them in the background, so the guest never has to think about it and the provider can assemble a package without becoming a tax expert.
Atlas
Advanced Toolkit for Lodging And Service
Atlas is for the people running a hotel or service business who currently keep a different tool open for every part of the job. Revenue in one system, reviews in another, purchasing and forecasting and facilities each somewhere else. Atlas brings them together so the whole operation is visible in one place.
It continues to grow, and the scope tends to follow what operators tell us they check most often.
McAllen Education Foundation
We built the website for the McAllen Education Foundation, and we continue to maintain it. The foundation funds the projects McAllen ISD teachers design but cannot cover within an ordinary classroom budget, connecting those teachers with donors from the private, business, and public sectors.
It is work close to home, and we are glad to have a hand in it.
